Friends of the Desert Mountains Golf Tournament
April 21 - 22, 2008

On a picture perfect Tuesday, April 22, 2008, golfers set off on a shotgun start at 1,000 feet above the valley floor against the backdrop of the beautiful Santa Rosa Mountains at the private Stone Eagle Golf Club located in Palm Desert. Golfers played the challenging range of elements that incorporate the dramatic desert landscape, while helping to support the Palm Desert non-profit organization, Friends of the Desert Mountains, dedicated to preserving the land in and around the Coachella Valley -- a fitting way to celebrate Earth Day.

The Pairings Party, sponsored by The H.N. & Frances C. Berger Foundation, held Monday evening April 21, included cocktails, dinner, a live celebrity impersonator show and a chance to bid on fabulous auction items. The cocktail party was hosted by Rancho Las Palmas Hotel, while  Guillermo’s Restaurante provided complimentary margaritas and tequila tastings. All attendees were entered in a drawing to receive door prizes including a stay and golf at Sunriver Resort, a private wine tasting at your home and a round of golf at The Reserve.

First prize for the lowest net score in the golf tournament went to the team representing the Berger Foundation comprised of Mike Rover, Jason Vance, Doug Vance and Jerry Lange; second place went to a team representing LDD Desert Development: Ted Lennon and his son Tyler, brother Jim Lennon and his son Tim. The third place winners, also representing LDD Desert Development, were comprised of Nizar Farhat, Brad Crouse, Sharon Slattery and DeLacey Allen.

Prizes were awarded to those closest to the pin on four par-three holes, which were won by Patrick Swarthout, Greg Johnson, Mark Draper and Lee Haven; Glenn Miller won a trip to Estancia La Jolla Hotel & Spa for the most accurate drive. Unfortunately the Hole-In-One prize of a Lexus hybrid from Desert Lexus was not won.

But the biggest winners of the night were Friends of the Desert Mountains and the community it serves as the premier conservation nonprofit dedicated to protecting the magnificent mountains, scenic vistas and recreation trails of the Coachella Valley. The Friends would like to thank all of the sponsors and participants who not only made the event possible, but so enjoyable!
