Educator Excited to be Working with Friends

After an extensive search, Roger Tansey, CEO of the Friends, announced that Scott Segal, a fully-credentialed teacher and Coachella Valley native, has been selected to serve as the Friends’ Director of Programs and Membership. Scott will coordinate the Friends’ volunteer and membership operations. A lifelong naturalist, Scott is energetic, enthusiastic, and ecstatic about being able to work with the Friends. An ardent advocate for the conservation, Scott can identify personally with the motivations of our dedicated donors and volunteers. “Get used to me,” Scott offered, “I plan on being around a while.”

Scott is a genuine “people person”, with a focus on relationship building. He will also be working to direct the Friends’ membership efforts. “It always strikes me as amazing how, in this day and age where time and money always seem to be in short supply, so many thoughtful citizens are making the decision to share both. People who act on their beliefs, whether donors, volunteers, or both, really inspire me,” says Segal.

As an experienced educator, Scott will also be working to cultivate and optimize our expanding assortment of educational programs. Since the Friends sees outdoor and environmental education as an important key to fostering generational appreciation of our local natural treasures, we have secured community based educational grants to help support environmental health and natural resource education programs. To sustain these grants, it is imperative that our instructional programs be verifiably, pedagogically sound. Scott will most certainly be a great help with that.

Scott is looking forward to meeting and working with each and every one of our supporters and volunteers. If you’d like to talk with the Friends’ newest team member, feel free to either stop by the monument visitor center, or give Scott a call at (760) 862-9084.
