Volunteer Opportunities Application Form

Volunteer assistance is very important to Friends of the Desert Mountains in our work to preserve open space lands within and surrounding the Coachella Valley, and to provide support to the Santa Rosa and San Jacinto Mountains National Monument. We have a variety of volunteer opportunities. Training will be provided for those activities requiring it. Please check the activities below that interest you and email to our Volunteer Coordinator by clicking the 'Submit Form' button at bottom of page.


Represent the Friends of the Desert Mountains by taking a shift at the Bobcat Bookstore and Gift Shop at the National Monument Visitor Center. The Center is open every day from 9 to 4.  The Visitor Center is located on Hwy 74, at the base of the mountains, just south of Hwy. 111.

Lead interpretive walks through the short Garden Walk at the National Monument Visitor Center.

Lead groups on hikes in the National Monument.

Share your enthusiasm for our National Monument with the kids!  Join the Friends’ environmental education program in the schools and on field trips.  

Help maintain trails within the Monument and assist with invasive plant cleanup and habitat restoration projects at the Visitor Center and in natural areas. 

Restore water sources for Bighorn Sheep.

Monitor bald eagles for the US Forest Service.

Provide hospitality services at public programs: set up and tear down, greet visitors, provide refreshments, hand out promotional materials.

Represent the Friends of the Desert Mountains at community events, help to develop community outreach programs and materials.

Assist with administrative tasks; help assemble mailings and other clerical tasks.

Assist with data entry and computer related tasks.

Present our Adopt a Desert Acre fundraising program slide show or PowerPoint presentation.

Help to survey and monitor habitat-critical land owned by the Friends.
