Exploring a Mecca Hills Slot-Cave

Join us for a new and exciting hike in the Mecca Hills in the Chuckwalla National Monument. This route takes us through a desert wash rich with striking geology and diverse desert plant life. We will continue to a slot canyon that opens into a unique enclosed space resembling a tall but short cave. After passing through the cave, we will stop for a lunch break and then start our return to the trailhead.
This hike is unlike any previous slot canyon hike we have explored in the Mecca Hills. Sorry no dogs are allowed for this event. This hike is classified as Moderately Strenuous due to its length (6.8 miles RT). The following equipment or supplies are required: hiking shoes or boots (mandatory), salty snack or lunch, sun hat, sunscreen, and 2.5-3.0 liters of water per hiker (no exceptions).
RSVP is required. Check-in begins 15 minutes prior to departure time.
Please Note: We will meet on Box Canyon Road. Be sure to view this map/UTM coordinates: 33.592222, -115.968056
