SUMMARY:Exploring a Mecca Hills Slot-Cave
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a new and exciting hike in the Mecca Hills in the Chuckwalla National Monument. This route takes us through a desert wash rich with striking geology and diverse desert plant life. We will continue to a slot canyon that opens into a unique enclosed space resembling a tall but short cave. After passing through the cave\, we will stop for a lunch break and then start our return to the trailhead. \nThis hike is unlike any previous slot canyon hike we have explored in the Mecca Hills. Sorry no dogs are allowed for this event. This hike is classified as Moderately Strenuous due to its length (6.8 miles RT). The following equipment or supplies are required: hiking shoes or boots (mandatory)\, salty snack or lunch\, sun hat\, sunscreen\, and 2.5-3.0 liters of water per hiker (no exceptions). \nRSVP is required. SUMMARY:Nature Walk at Blixseth Park
DESCRIPTION:Join our Friends’ volunteer docents for a nature walk in Blixseth Mountain Park. The Park features both native and non-native desert landscape\, a wide walking path with benches for observing desert vistas\, plants\, and mountains. We will share fun facts about desert flora and fauna as well as interesting information about the Native Cahuilla people. \nThis is a leisurely 1.0 mile wide walking path for persons with limited mobility. There is no elevation gain and little shade. This path is friendly to dogs on a leash. Bring 1 liter of water\, a sun hat\, sunscreen and wear close-toed shoes. \nRSVP is required.
