DESCRIPTION:As part of the America 250-year celebration – we will be leading a special educational tour of a few points of interest along a portion of the Juan Bautista de Anza National Histor Trail corridor. The program shares stories of the historic Juan Bautista de Anza expedition that began 250 years ago\, that spanned over 1\,000 miles of the southwest. \nWe will stop at a few points of interest and take short hikes at each stop; talking about the remote landscapes within the Santa Rosa and San Jacinto Mountains that early settlers had to navigate\, as well as the historical importance that this expedition had with its profound impact on the cultural and political landscapes of the United States. \nLOCATION: Map with meeting spots will be emailed to registered participants. *You will need to drive your own personal vehicle to participate in this multiple stop\, tour program. \nHike rating\, elevation change\, length: EASY hike on short segments at various point of interest along Highway 74 corridor. \nRSVP: Space is limited. Reservations begin 14 days prior to the event. This is a free event. \nSponsored by the Bureau of Land Management in collaboration with the Friends of the Desert Mountains.

DESCRIPTION:Discover how the desert comes alive after dark! Do you know which animals change colors when you use a blacklight? \nUsing blacklights\, a Friends’ volunteer docent will begin a short walk on uneven cobbled desert terrain in the basin below the dike/levy looking for scorpions and other nocturnal creatures that inhabit our desert. \nThis is a family friendly event. Minors must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Bring water\, wear closed-toed shoes and a black light if you have one. If not\, we will have a few black lights to share. Sorry\, no dogs allowed on this trail. \nRSVP is required\, check-in 15 minutes prior to start time. Ticket reservations begin 14 days prior to the event.
