SUMMARY:Twisted Canyon in the Mecca Hills
DESCRIPTION:Description: We will start our hike in a sandy wash that provides excellent views of the Mecca Hills that have been eroded\, folded and crushed by the San Andreas Fault network over the eons. Then we will enter a side canyon and explore two separate paths that twist and turn their way through these hills. You will experience firsthand the incredible landscape of the Chuckwalla National Monument. \nOverview: This easy hike (Rating below 50) is generally suitable for anyone who enjoys walking. Mostly level or with a slight incline. \nTime: 8:30AM – 11:00AM \nDifficulty: Easiest (Rating: 48); For more information about the Difficulty Rating: Shenandoah Hiking Difficulty Scale \nDistance: 3 miles \nElevation Gain: 400 feet (equals 40 flights of stairs) \nTerrain & Obstacles: The trail follows a sandy wash before narrowing in the canyons\, where the terrain becomes uneven and rocky. \nRequirements: Minimum 2 liters of water and a snack\, Closed-toe shoes\, No dogs allowed \nRecommended: Sunscreen and hat\, Hiking poles\, Long sleeve shirt \nMeeting Location: Park on Box Canyon Road at this location/UTM coordinates: 33.59051\, -115.97312 \nA suggested non-refundable donation of $10.00 per person is appreciated and encouraged to support our volunteer programs. \nReservations: Ticket reservations begin 2 weeks prior to the event and will be published at that time.
