DESCRIPTION:Description: Enjoy this easy hike along the hillside above Araby Wash. Explore the wonders of this critical habitat area to learn about the endangered Casey’s June Beetle and fire ecology in this sensitive habitat area. On our return loop\, we will wander down into the wash to check out a few desert plants. \nOverview: This easy hike (Rating below 50) is generally suitable for anyone who enjoys walking. Mostly level or with a slight incline. \nTime: 9:00AM – 12:00PM \nDifficulty: Easiest (Rating: 24); For more information about the Difficulty Rating: Shenandoah Hiking Difficulty Scale \nDistance: 3 miles \nElevation Gain: 100 feet (equals 10 flights of stairs) \nTerrain & Obstacles: Some of this trail is in a sandy wash\, full sun exposure for the duration of the hike. \nRequirements: Minimum 2 liters of water and a snack\, Closed-toe shoes\, No dogs allowed \nRecommended: Sunscreen and hat\, Hiking poles\, Long sleeve shirt \nMeeting Location: We will meet at the trailhead located off Bogert Trail at Barona Road. In this unique urban area\, we are still able to find a little native desert environment surrounded by local trees and shrubs that many of our feathered friends call home. As you walk the perimeter of an open desert property adjacent to the golf course\, you will find approximately 25-30 different species on your 1-mile walk-about. DESCRIPTION:Discover the wonders of the night sky at the Santa Rosa and San Jacinto Mountains National Monument! \nJoin Friends of the Desert Mountains and the Astronomical Society of the Desert for a free evening of stargazing beneath some of Southern California’s darkest skies. Volunteer astronomers will guide you through the cosmos\, sharing fascinating stories while helping you explore planets\, star clusters\, nebulae\, galaxies\, and other celestial wonders through a variety of telescopes. \nWhether you’re an experienced stargazer or looking through a telescope for the very first time\, this is a wonderful opportunity to experience the Monument after dark and connect with the natural world in a whole new way. \nWhat to Bring \n\nA chair for comfortable viewing\nWater and weather-appropriate clothing\nA red-light flashlight if you have one (please avoid white flashlights whenever possible to preserve everyone’s night vision)\n\nImportant Information \n\nChildren are welcome and encouraged\, but must be accompanied by an adult at all times.\nOur volunteer astronomers are happy to help everyone enjoy the telescopes. To keep the equipment properly aligned and provide the best viewing experience for all guests\, please allow volunteers to operate and adjust the telescopes.\nThis event is wheelchair accessible on asphalt.\nThe program is offered weather permitting.
