Locate Milkweeds in the Monument and Help us Protect the Monarchs!

Help us protect the Monarch butterfly by identifying and mapping milkweeds in the Santa Rosa & San Jacinto Mountains National Monument using the free smartphone application iNaturalist.

Monarch butterfly populations are declining - they cannot survive without milkweed as their caterpillars feed exclusively on these plants. Our goal is to record the status of this special pollinator’s habitat and document the density and diversity of milkweed species within the Monument.

This is an ongoing project - your participation is appreciated today on Earth Day or whenever you are hiking within the monument. For more information and instructions, go to: www.DesertMountains.org/milkweeds
